When it comes to security on the internet, the thing I’m most afraid of is getting a virus that wipes out everything I have saved (client files and information). I get about 5 emails per day that only have a link to something which tells me that person’s email account has been hacked and that there is a virus waiting for when you click the link. It seems like it has become an everyday occurrence just recently and it appears to just be a matter of time before one of the viruses makes its way in.”

What concerns me most is id theft and someone that will attack people I know through my contacts/emails that would take advantage of my network of concerned people who would help if help is needed.”

My concern would be transferring data (social security and/or Federal EIN) through the Internet, getting stolen. Causing identity theft or selling the numbers on the black market.”

For me it is data loss due to failure or corruption of hardware.”

My biggest concern is being hacked or my back up program being hacked. I have a lot of sensitive data about my clients. I wouldn’t want to see things about my clients that came from my files all over the internet.”

I really do not want any one tapping into my website or tapping into my teams email address to cause spam.”

As far as security goes, I’m not necessarily worried about my personal information being hacked or compromised, but I do worry about the cloud and losing information. I am trying as a small business to make my life easier and more transient for me. By this I mean I am trying to keep my files and information on the cloud so I can access it from anywhere that I may be. For someone who has typically done things more old school as far as a paper calendar and files in folders versus online it has been a very big trust issue with me that all of my information will remain and I will not lose important contacts and meeting information.”

  • Develop a cyber security policy and plan. This is especially important if you have mobile workers. Include  prevention, resolution and restitution, as well as off-site back up plans and social media access utilizing business  equipment. Review it every six months.
